Families in limbo waiting for immigration matters to be resolved

In previous posts we have written about the frustrations various types of businesses are experiencing while waiting for immigration matters to be worked through. While these entities are undoubtedly facing hurdles in that department, they are not the only ones. Families are having to navigate the immigration system without knowing how things will end up as well.

Many families likely rejoiced when President Obama announced his executive actions regarding the protections from deportation that certain immigrants would be allowed to seek. One group that was singled out in those actions were the parents of children who are either legal permanent residents or citizens of the United States.

The executive action sought to provide those individuals who had been in the U.S. for more than five years with protection from deportation. To obtain the protection an application would need to be submitted and accepted. Because twenty-six states filed a lawsuit to block the executive actions that program is currently on hold. This leaves many families unsure of their futures.

While they wait some families are preparing for the day that applications will once again be accepted. Accordingly they are gathering the information that will be a necessary part of the application. Portions, such as how to prove residency in the U.S. for more than five years, can be difficult for some.

In this, or any matter concerning an immigration application an immigration lawyer may be of assistance. Working with such an individual from the outset may help to prevent any issues from arising.
