As most readers are likely aware, while it can make many things easier, when it does not work, it can cause serious delays. This is illustrated in the delays many people who, in the midst of deportation proceedings, are currently experiencing. The delays are a result of a computer crash that has impacted immigration courts throughout the country.

The problem dates to last month and according to a voice recording, at an 800 number individuals in the midst of deportation proceedings usually call to get information on the status of their case, the system has not been updated since April 12, 2014. Last week an official with the Justice Department indicated that the hardware failure might possibly be resolved this week. Whether that will actually happen, remains to be seen. In the meantime, many who are facing deportation are in limbo, unsure of when the process will pick up again.

Recently Attorney General Eric Holder acknowledged that the immigration courts have experienced technical issues and that the Justice Department hopes to address information technology systems with additional money requested in next year’s budget. He also said the department has requested additional immigration judges.

While the system remains down, individuals throughout the nations, including some in the state of Florida, continue to face immigration issues. Whether the matter pertains to deportation, or another issue, for the best result most find it beneficial to seek the assistance of an immigration lawyer.
